The Usual Nerdliness
Posted by nfpvic at 09:26 PM on March 2, 2005.
Happiness is when you finish a 12 page math project (that must be sent halfway across the county) twenty minutes before the post office closes. WHOOHOO! Yesterday, Scott and I worked like crazy to finish the team project in time to be eligible for regionals. Even though we were the only two who actually worked, four other people are credited with helping. I'm so pissed! It should be a two-person team.. that looks so much more impressive than a 6-person team.. *sigh* Oh well, maybe we can kick them off by the time state rolls around...
Finishing the paper was a huge relief. But man, it was all me and Scott! gaaahahhh I'm really, really mad that those leeches are getting credit too, especially because two of them are my mortal enemies. DAAAHHH!!!
Speaking of "Dah," I have over 400 pictures I need to upload and share. I'll do some of that tonight. Or tomorrow, definitely. *nod*
I had a great day at school, especially right after History! I was telling Mr. Simpson how I hated my idiot English teacher because he kept on relating everything, EVERYTHING that we read to the war in Iraq or President Bush, and Mr. Simpson got pissed off (not at me, but at my teacher of course :P). Quote from him: "God, I hate it when teachers try to shove their fucking opinion down your throat. That's not teaching. That's propoganda." YEAAAH! That's what I'm saying! (and he did say "fucking," along with several other expletives :D) Oh my god, I felt so much better after hearing him say that. I really respect Mr. Simpson, so it means a lot to me when he agrees with me.
So that was awesome. And then after school, KB was so much fun! I don't even remember exactly what was going on; I just know that it was so fun and hilarious. Random things like eating gummi bears, throwing gummi bears, seeing ray and tammy visit (:D!), photography... most excellent ^^ For about 3/4 of the second round, the junior team wasn't paying any attention at all, yet we were still winning! XD it was so good! in the end though, we ended up losing by one point to the seniors (on the last question too T__T) but it was still good awesome! I wish Holly had been there too! :(
Oh, and in the midst of our not-paying-attentionness, Mr. Keller's older little boy Nolan (I think he's 4?) went up to me and said, "You're silly!" XD!! It was SO CUTE! Of course, Mr. Keller had told him to do it :D I love it when Mr. Keller starts telling his kids crazy things like that in a happy singsong voice.. like, "You're not going to drive a car until you're thirty! :D" "Why, Daddy?" "Because you see these kids? *points to me and other juniors* They're baaad drivers."
Then Laura's "crude-ho" thing when reading? Shazz! XD
My math test results will come tomorrow. Hopefully. I should really read and do Chapter 10.1. Oh well, tomorrow! :P

Third Post Today: My English Essay
Posted by nfpvic at 10:19 PM on March 3, 2005.
Very rarely do I ever post my own writing on my tabulas or livejournal. You're in luck, folks! Here's the introductory paragraph that I am turning into my teacher tomorrow morning. I'm dead serious; this is exactly how I'm turning it in. He'll either love it, or his brain will implode. We shall see tomorrow.
PS: Copyright Victoria Kirst. Steal and die. Though I don't think you'll want to steal this sucker.. :P
The Emperor is Naked
God, I love literature. There's nothing quite like that tingly, under-the-skin feeling that dances all gypsy-style through your veins whenever you read something that energizes you, something that makes you want to run outside and do jumping jacks in the middle of the street for no reason, something that confirms your existence and your breathing and the very reasons for which you live. But unfortunately, I must rephrase my first statement: I love real literature. I am forced to clarify this point because, in the gigantic collection of all words and phrases ever written and mass-produced in the universe, there is so much crap. Due to pity, negligence, bribery, or pure stupidity, this crap gets published, and in the worst-case scenario, literary morons hail this crap to be powerful, poignant, profound. If an established literary big shot declares something to be a classic, then, ala "The Emperor's New Clothes," their underlings bob their heads vigorously in agreement, regardless of whether or not the writing in question contains a sliver of redeeming value. Luckily, I am not a literary underling, nor do I plan to emulate one. Rick Moody's "Boys" exemplifies a true modern piece of literature. Moody presents a meditation on life that is as real and as natural as a heartbeat; while the meaning of his creation is not easily articulated, the emotion is understood upon first reading. Stories such as Sherman Alexie's "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven," however, epitomize purposeless, plotless ambiguity, and as a result, they lack substance of any worth. In order to be rightfully labeled as "literature," a piece of writing must portray a fragment of irrefutable truth with which in some way all humans can empathize, agree, and comprehend.

Yes, my friends, I MIGHT have just gone insane. And I take more risks with my English classes than I really should. But meh, you only live once. HO!
PS: I realize that you can't "comprehend with" anything (last sentence). Doubt my teacher will notice or care.
PS again: I got a perfect score on my math test, bringing me to a 99% in precalc. should be able to add 15 more points of e/c to my final score. hells yes.
PS 3: I love mr. simpson and mr. keller.

A Day of Finding, Learning, and Freaking Out
Posted by nfpvic at 03:31 PM on March 6, 2005.
Even though we got our new monitor a few weeks ago, it was just now today that I realized the monitor's settings were screwed up. Fixed them this morning, and whoa dang, things are looking a lot better! And my tabulas and livejournal are SUPER discolored XD I'll fix that later.
Also this morning: my mom left for a 2-week business trip to alaska :( I miss my mommy already. *sigh* At least once she comes home, I'll be all done with my classes and finals.
ALSO this morning: I found a fairly awesome image gallery host,
Grove Street! In terms of web design and asthetics, it's ridiculously ugly and it won't let you customize much to make it prettier. However, in terms of features and usability, it's awesome. 100 mb of space for images! :O No limit for picture size, it shows a smaller version in addition to the original picture, and its Java Applet uploader thing lets you upload as many as you want at a time! Sweet. I've just about used 100 mb of one account by simply uploading the pics from my camera ^^; I'm almost done, and I'll devote a separate post to the gallery once I've finished.
(The ugliness of the layout does kind of bother me nevertheless...)
(Meh.)
While waiting for the photos to upload, I've been catching up on math homework, but I still have much to do. T__T; Vectors seem fairly easy, but the project is confusing and time-consuming; plus, I can't find my project guideline packet! Alas! (Sure I can just get a new one tomorrow, but it's still aggravating.) I think I have one last test this Friday, too. And then next week: finals! A week of dread and anxiety... and the week before break. Now is that a shazz, or a ho? XD
AAHHHH TRACK STARTS TOMORROW AAHHHHHHHHHHH!!! And tomorrow, I'll experience one of the advantages to being slow: Even when you're grossly out of shape, nobody can tell the difference.
Ahh the images...

Maynorisms.
Posted by nfpvic at 12:58 PM on March 7, 2005.
For these last 7 days of spring quarter, I'm going to try to remember to post Maynorisms daily. What is a Maynorism, you ask? Well, as most of you already know, I loathe my current English teacher, Mr. Maynor. He says the most retarded things every class period. Thus, MAY-nor-ism (n): One of Mr. Maynor's retarded quips.
Today's Maynorism:
(after reading a paragraph about Oedipus the King)
"What happened to the gods? Where are they today?
*two minute pause for effect*
Think about that."
Analysis:
Now, this comment is insanely stupid on several different levels. On the surface, it is simply an off-topic, purposeless question that has nothing to do with English.
But this question actually implies more than one might think. Maynor posed this question before us in this philosophical, "critical thinking" tone, revealing that he thought the answers to this "thought-provoking" question would be profound and telling of the human character. He also spoke as if there were numerous possibilities for the answer. THEN he tells us to "think about" it.
This question of "what happened to the gods," or rather, when/how did the perception of the Greek gods shift from religion to mythology, has a definite, correct answer. Well okay, not quite a definite answer, but there is a certain "realm" of correctness. This isn't something that one could just logically think up.
If we didn't know the answer, then it'd be impossible to just "think about that" and come up with the correct explanation; instead, we'd have to research history. Otherwise, all we'd be doing is making stuff up. That's what Maynor told us to do buy his question.
This just exemplifies my teacher's psychology. If he doesn't know something -- and we're talking about facts here, not beliefs, interpretations, or etc. -- he'd rather make up his own story than find out the truth. Furthermore, he seems to believe that by making up his own story, he's actually "thinking at a higher level" (as teachers like to say). Then he convinces himself that his mental concoctions are actuality and goes from there. Which explains his view on... let's just say, a lot of things.
Bah. What a typical <>. XD
(if you know what I mean by <>, I hope you agree with me. if you don't know what I mean by <>, well then, I'm probably better off that way. XD someday, I won't feel the need to censor my blogs...)

"Here's my secret: I walk some of it, then I walk the rest."
Posted by nfpvic at 06:26 PM on March 8, 2005.
I'M SO SORE. OH MY GOD. All those stupid lunges and squats! At least everyone is insanely sore, and not just me. Even Emi was like, "Seriously Mangrum, I've never been this sore in my entire life." Mangrum's reply? "Oh well, lunges will do that to you. And you're always the most sore two days after, so tomorrow will be much worse." XD ooh mangrum!
Anyway, I have a ridiculous amount of math homework as usual. DAH.
Interesting stuff in the
Opinion Journal today! Here's something that caught my eye; I wonder if it's true? XD
(warning: republicanism!)
In other news, there appears to be a lot of drama lately :O My friend Jen at dance class was telling me her terrible roommate situation, and then online there were some incidents, and then in other areas it's all crazy o_o; Catastrophes always like to strike the week before and of finals week. Oh well, every day is a day closer to break (though even closer to finals o__o)

Back from the 8-day death!
Posted by nfpvic at 08:24 PM on March 18, 2005.
Phew, I'm somewhat back from the dead today! Huzzah! Finals are all over (they were over since yesterday morning) and now, I just need to wait for the results... meaning.... IT'S SPRING BREAK!!! WHOOHOO!!
This week is all abouts resting, nerding, reading, and track. AND partaying.
SPEAKING of track: it's going pretty well! Butt-crampingly tiring, but I think it's going fine.
(Track Summary)
I really want to go shopping tomorrow. I need track stuff and more track stuff and maybe a new pair of pants. Or... more track stuff. But my mom is coming home from Alaska tomorrow night, so I don't think I'll be going out for long. That's okay; I miss my mommy, so I'm glad she's returning :D
CRAP!!! My library books are now two days overdue -__-; I need to remember to turn them back in. Crap, I need gas too. And, as I finally got my check for the newspaper (87-ish dolla!) I should go cash that as well. Actually, I may just put it all in savings. I've been spending too much money lately.
I've been mentally distracted for quite some time now, so how's everyone doing? :D?
Coolest meme EVER

MS Paint meme from
Nell<3
1.
Comment and I'll pick one of your lj interests (or for tabu friends: I'll choose something from your profile, or.. I'll do something hehe) and draw you a picture using MS paint.
2. You have no say in what I draw for you or in how much it will suck.
3. Copy this and the pic that is drawn for you into your journal.
And here's the lovely pic from NELL!
(to-do lists)
Now I have to somehow entice people to comment... hmmm...

DRAWING ONE: Jimbly loves cello players.
Posted by nfpvic at 06:16 PM on March 21, 2005.
Here's the first result of the
MS Paint Meme. (although I must confess that I only used MS Paint to draw the image; the coloring and other finalizations were done in PS due to lack of patience ^^; )
Click for a larger view:
And now, I shall answer a few questions that may arise:
1) No, I haven't finished (or started) any of the other drawlings yet.
2) Yes, I did kind of forget what a cello looks like
3) Yes, I do realize that, considering the location of his left hand, our Newport child prodigy must be playing the on open strings. (it adds a whole new dimension to the drawing. seriously now. XD)
Hope you like it Jimbly! One down, four more to go. Meg, Monkee, Auna, and Ray.. yours are all on the way~
And if anyone else suddenly wants a pic after witnessing my artistic prowess, check out
this post! :B
Ahh. I got new shoes for track yesterday, but MAN, my right shoe gave me a huuge blister/scrape thing on my ankle. It hurts so badly! FAAA! I was limping halfway on the last mile of the run today -_-; Ah well, that's the way with new shoes..
I've been playing Terranigma again for the last two days. I'm thinking about making a retro Terranigma layout for either my tabu or LJ sometime soon.. but that depends on laziness :P

DRAWING TWO: Meg's 3 (4?) R's
Posted by nfpvic at 09:13 PM on March 22, 2005.
Man. I'm so sorry Jinny, but Meg's MS Paint image came out WAY cooler than yours XD It didn't mean to be that way; I promise! ^^;;;
Click on the image for the larger view:
Meg's interest: I actually took three XD "road rage, robots, rolling down windows"
HOPE YOU LIKE IT MEG!!
In other news, I got a 4.0 for the last quarter! YEAAAH!!! But ALSO,
I GOT BIT BY A BEE IN MY CAR WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO DRIVE TO TRACK. HOLY CRAP, I FREAKED OUT. I hopped in my car, and then my left arm felt kinda hurt and weird... then I was like, "OH my jesus, have I been stung?" And then I saw an F-ing HUGE bee on my shoulder O____O I literally jumped out of my car and started running around until it went away :OOO it was so traumatic! OMG. It stopped hurting after about 5 minutes thought, which was good.
And strangely enough, it was this big nasty bump thing by the time I got to Curtis, but after we ran and everything, it disappeared! Crazy, but I'm not complaining.
More PS/MS Paint stuff to come! (but hopefully less bee stories)
[
EDIT: ps: I love ray and
his galleries]
[
EDIT 2: *CHOKES* HOLY SH#T
go look at Jinny's MS Paint drawings NOW]

Victoria's misadventures on the internet
Posted by nfpvic at 11:50 PM on March 23, 2005.
A couple of minutes ago, I just beat Terranigma again. Now I'm all depressed T_T Such a good game! But such a sad ending... (dude,
Terranigma's on Wikipedia? coo.) If you've never played it before, um,
you absolutely need to do so. Download
the rom and figure out
how to emulate if you don't know how to do it already.
Anyhow. Today was the first track meet of the season. Booo. Actually, it wasn't so bad. I ran a 3:44 for the half mile XD;; making me last place by almost 30 seconds. OH well! I always forget how it feels to be dead last place until the first track (or cross country) meet of the season. Such a lovely feeling. XD As long as I survive and I'm getting exercise, it's all good! ~:D
But UGH, JUST my luck, I had to sit by freaking ALEX on the bus ride to the meet -___-;;; I kept on talking to Heather (who sat behind me) and he kept on adding his retarded two cents on everything I said. BLAH. On the way back, thank god, I sat by a random sophomore and I ended up having a nice chat with Nora and Marek (since stupid heidi went home w/ her mumsie und schwester :B).
Tomorrow, I'm going book shopping for the SATs and SAT II's! Yay! XD Yesterday night, I finally narrowed down my college list to five potentials, and one of those requires three SAT subjective tests (two recommend them) so I figure what the heck; might as well go for it! Though I'll probably attend UW so this is probably a huge waste of moneys.. meh.
After my college planning time, I just started visiting random places online. Found some pretty good stuff:
Old Hate Mail
"Please clarify your outrage so that I might be less of an ignorant f**k and an asshole in the future. Thanks, Frank J."
XD classic.
Darth Tater
Coming in February from Hasbro Inc.'s Playskool division: "Darth Tater," a special Mr. Potato Head dressed as "Star Wars" villain Darth Vader.
Yeah so it's two months old. -I- just saw it now!
How to Blog Good
If the librarian asks you for a library card, accuse her of being one of Ashcroft's Nazi stormtroopers. This will usually shut her up.
Don't care if I'm the only one who agrees, but I LOVE iowahawk! XD
Weird and sometimes frightening news stories
A man in Texas who said LASIK surgery was too expensive to correct his eye sight had the bridge of his glasses permanently pierced into his nose, according to a Local 6 News report.
gahhh!! that's so nasty. btw, read more than just that story. There is some WEIRD stuff out there o_O
PS: I WILL TOTALLY FINISH THE MS PAINT MEMES TOMORROW -_-;; SORRY FOR MY LAZINESS!

My Pre-Meet Track Song
Posted by nfpvic at 01:05 PM on March 31, 2005.
Life's been good to me in the new quarter, with the exception of the ridiculously huge load of homework for calculus AND... the horrors that are track meets. In regards to my feelings toward track, I believe Ezra Pound said it best:
Song
Winter is icummen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm,
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
and how the wind doth ramm,
Sing: Goddamm.
Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damn you, sing: Goddamm.
Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.
Sing goddamm, damm, sing Goddamm,
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.
(it makes much more sense if you
read the original poem off of which this parodies)
I'm in a poetry mood right now (though I should probaby draw those MS paint pics I still have left from about a week ago -_-; ).
Another
excellent poem referenced in a much more serious context; this one's by Dylan Thomas. May Terri Schiavo rest in peace.
And some e.e. cummings, because I love him.
(it is moments after i have dreamed)
Now I must go get ready for the meet. Bah.
