Hehe, I was commenting to Abi's post (which I think is FABULOUS and very careful to not offend while talking about her political views) but then it was getting SO long that I decided to make it a post in my tabulas!
So, here's my response to
Abi's xanga post:
Oh man, if I only had friends that were Republican.. I'd have like, 4 friends here... wait.. *counts # of friends*
First, in response to:
"Though it was tasteless of Michael Moore to use the footage of a very emotional thing without the family's permission, there is one thing that stops me from being too upset about it. Oh yeah, HE IS DEAD. mean, maybe I am cold and heartless, but a dead man does not care what happens to him. The family may. And I support them in not wanting it. But saying that the dead man would be outraged and have a few choice words?"
Well, this sounds like a stretch, but say if Kerry wins the election and somehow we're literally fighting a war to liberate homosexuals. You enlist into the military and go overseas to fight for equal rights of all people. You die fighting for a cause you agree with wholeheartedly and a cause you were willing to die for, and your funeral is recorded as an emotional, patriotic event. That footage is used by Moore without permission in his documentary and he manipulates it as an example of why you died a pointless death, why Kerry is evil, and why we should stop fighting for homosexuals. I at least think that would be a bit weak.
"He's dead. And dead fighting a war that is supported by (others, also, but primarily) George Bush. He was in the military. He took that risk. And he supports the man who put him there. He is dead, tooo bad." See, I completely agree with that. And that is exactly the argument why Moore should
not have used the footage. By putting that clip there, Moore is saying that this war is pointless and innocent lives are being killed and we need to SAVE those poor, ignorant soldiers from the battlefield. That's BS. He and his family not only knew the risk, but they believed that the risk of death for freedom is the duty of every American soldier. They are
proud that their son gave his life for this country. They continue to support Bush and the war, as this was and still is the right thing to do (in their opinion and mine). Your argument would make sense if the family was upset at
Bush because of their son, but they're pissed at
Moore for making it SEEM like that's what they think.
WELL anyway, I don't agree completely w/ all of the traditional Republican views; I definitely disagree w/ their anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage. So FYI, here are my republican views:
As for welfare, social programs, and etc... Confucius taught me to work for my money! No job's too lowly for vic!! Why should we punish and steal money (through taxing) from big, successful corporations that worked their way to get where they are, to give (through benefits, welfare, whatever) to the poor that sit around getting welfare checks and don't care enough to find a job? Wouldn't it make more sense to expand established businesses so they can give "the little guy" a job and a steady supply of money, rather than give "the little guy" a finite amount of money to use up and not earn? The whole "give a man a fish, teach a man to fish" mentality is what I believe. Plus I think taxes should go to the military as they were intended, not toward things like public education :/ sorry guys, I have a hard time believing that higher paychecks equate to better teachers. Finally, I agree with the war in Iraq. To protect our country from terrorism, asking them nicely not to hate us is going to do squat. Also, I support the military and the troops. I can't see how it's possible to support the troops, but not the war. I mean, if one doesn't support their cause for fighting, then.. how does he or she support the troops? If I were fighting in Iraq, I sure as bananas wouldn't wanna see my people back home protesting the war and bashing my president while claiming that they support me.
BTW Abi, I'm SO not arguing with you since all you mentioned was homosexuality and propoganda; I agree on both. I'm not denying that Bush and Kerry both attack each other with equal.. spinny-ness, but no one released a movie attacking Kerry out of pure hatred for the man (since moore claims he's not a democrat, OF course, so he wasn't attacking the republicans, oh not at all).. and don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming Kerry for this, but it just irks me that moore would do that, then have the audacity to call it a "documentary" and THEN spreads his crap around the world, in Europe and Asia, spewing his disdain for "most Americans" (which is pretty much the no-balls way of saying ALL Americans, except for himself of course), making other countries think even less of the US than they already do.. (I mean, terrorist groups, namely Hezbolla and Hamas, are urging their followers to view his "documentary") and no one can convince me that the dislike of Americans overseas just SUDDENLY started because of Iraq and Bush. Come on now. We're the most successful nation in the world, economically and socially. We're not perfect, but according to studies done by the UN we're literally the best in the world by a long shot, and we're still striving for better. Other nations have been bitter about that for quiiite a bit.
Just I seriously hate Michael Moore for several reasons other than his Anti-Bushness.. a LOT because of his hypocritical and pompous ass-like attitude, and a LOT because of his anti-American rhetoric he spews while touring other countries.. I mean, wtf? If you want the quotes, I'll send them to ya! hehe oh, AND they keep on comparing "F9/11" as the left's response to "Passion of the Christ".. ??? I don't get that at all XD
Dude, that was a long entry. Now aren't you glad I didn't put this as one huge comment? hehe
